As the mania accompanying the new Star Wars movie is upon us, these evil geniuses (perhaps graduates of the same school that produced Dr. Evil from Austin Powers) have made an orchestral cocktail jazz/swing LP of instrumentals from the movie's soundtrack. Hearing the 1977 number one hit "Star Wars Theme" and others done with Dixieland piccolo trumpets, a lead clarinet, space-age organ, stand-up bass, and snapping fingers is perhaps a silly stretch, but I kind of like it. It sounds a bit like Doc Severinsen's old Johnny Carson orchestra, and I almost imagine Johnny himself coming out in a Darth Vader costume for a skit. (P.O. Box 404, Redondo Beach, CA 90277)
