Bunny Berigan - The Pied Piper 1934-40
The Pied Piper 1934-40
By Bunny Berigan
Very Good Condition
Rowland "Bunny" Berigan(1908-42) was influenced by Louis Armstrong and was one of the leading jazz trumpeters during the 1930s.
This excellent compilation is a good representation of his recordings for VICTOR from 1934 to 1940.
The 22 varied tracks feature his playing with the orchestras of Gene Gifford, Frankie Trumbauer, Benny Goodman among others plus Berigan's own band.
Highlights include 'King Porter Stomp' with Benny Goodman, 'Jelly Roll Blues', 'Trees' inspired by Joyce Kilmer's poem and Berigan's greatest hit 'I Can't Get Started' from 1937.
With 73 minutes of moving and swinging jazz, 'The Pied Piper' is a fine memorial to Bunny Berigan who succumbed to alcoholism at the tragically early age of 33.
