For Sentimental Reasons (Live at the Hollywood Palladium)

By Charlie Spivak

Very Good Condition

This CD has one partial and two complete radio broadcasts by the Charlie Spivak Orchestra during 1947-48. Spivak, who was billed as playing "the sweetest trumpet in the world," generally lived up to his billing. The emphasis is on dance music with some vocals by Tommy Mercer, Rusty Nichols, the Stardreamers, Margaret Manning and (on "Little Girl") Irene Daye. Usually each broadcast concludes with a reasonably heated instrumental ("Stompin' Room Only" and "Bulldozer" are highpoints) but the focus is on dance music rather than jazz, making this a melodic set best suited to be played in the background.
