Don Pullen was an avant-garde jazz pianist and organist. He was born in Virginia 1941 but lost his life to cancer in 1995, two years after recording this live album in Switzerland. His own style was often described as percussive and while knowing of his illness during the event at Montreux performed at the peak of his powers for this incredible concert on July 13, 1993. Through his career, Don performed with Charles Mingus and recorded with vocalists including Arthur Prysock and Nina Simone. Don first recorded at album at Montreux in 1978, the album we present here Live Again with a different twist courtesy of The African Brazillian Connection. Don on piano is accompanied by Carlos Ward on saxophone, Nilson Matta on bass, Mor Thiam on vocals, wind chimes and percussion for the two songs he wrote and drummer J.T. Lewis. It was originally released by Blue Note.
