His most ambitious, unpredictable, and musically satisfying album. Jonathan Butler at this time was an unheralded expatriate South African who did more acoustic guitar playing than singing, and hadn't yet become an Urban Contemporary hero. His vocals weren't as polished or heavily produced, and his compositions were looser, more animated, and less calculating.

A Review:

One of Jonathan's greatest cds. This really was before the R & B influence on him and so if you are looking for that South African jazz bias you will find it on this cd. Personally for contemporary jazz I prefer what we call songs without words though I do not mind the old stuff from Louis Armstrong. My favorite song on this cd is track # 7 "Thinking of you" which I can play for 365 days without getting bored. This is a cd that has stood the test of time and reminds me how the djs on Zambian radio would play it almost everyday. Those were days when I worked for Johnson and Johnson in Ndola and hence this cd brings sweet memories to me. Remember these were the days of Earl Klugh's Wishful thinking, Tropical legs etc and if you had this combination (Earl Klugh & Jonathan Butler) you were complete. Released in 1986 but believe me it sounds like it was released yesterday. Another must have for any jazz fan. This is a cd that I dedicate to Sam Sakala on Radio Phoenix in Zambia and Ben Kangwa on ZNBC radio. Thanks guys for having pioneered the playing of jazz on our national radio stations. The good news is that Jonathan has released another cd which comes out June 2002. Thanks Jonathan for answering the requests of your fans. At least we are getting a new release from you every year. Keep up your excellent work.
