Kenny Chesney - The Road and the Radio
The Road and the Radio
By Kenny Chesney
Very Good Condition
Kenny returns with his first full on studio album in two years. The title track 'Road & The Radio' is about seeking one's truth behind the wheel with the radio as one's truest companion, was written by Chesney. BNA. 2005.
After the sort of year that Kenny Chesney has experienced--from a whirlwind courtship through a short-lived marriage--a guy needs some time to chill. Thus it's no surprise that The Road and the Radio finds the party-hearty country hunk in an uncommonly introspective mood. The soul-searching title track establishes the album's intimacy and theme of taking stock, sustained through the bittersweet balladry of "Who You'd Be Today," "In a Small Town," "Freedom," and "Like Me." Though Chesney only wrote one track here, "Beer in Mexico," he invests the rest with personal conviction. Even the comparatively hard-rocking "Living in Fast Forward" has a reflective twist to it, while the Caribbean lilt of "Tequila Loves Me" has more than a measure of melancholy. Whatever the effects of romantic travails on his personal life, his music has gained some emotional depth. --Don McLeese
A Review:
I love Kenny Chesney's voice; it's clear, soft in all the right places and powerful when needed. What appealed to me first (years ago) was his integration of island sounds with country music. He makes it clear that he loves warm, sunny and the carefree lifestyle of the islands, while never letting you forget that he is pure country. If you've never bought one of his cd's then get "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem" first. You will then, most likely, want them all, past and present. On this cd, "The Road and The Radio", I like all of the songs, but "Who You'd Be Today" and "Tequila Loves Me" are my favorites. Another cd you won't want to overlook is the not heavily promoted "Be As You Are", which has "Old Blue Chair" for the first and last track. A great beginning and a great ending in my opinion, with alot of good stuff in the middle. Hmmm... sounds like an oreo, but I digress. I recommend ALL music by Kenny Chesney. His music has something for everyone to appreciate.
